Interestingly though, you need a key for every type of lock. That key he had will only work for that style of lock, for example the yale 5 pin. There are apparently approx 200 types of barrel locks in common homes! 200 keys is a big keyring :)
There is an older more sure method of breaking in too. It’s called window bumping and all you do is get a solid object and bump it on the window, it smashes, you’re in :)

On a more serious note, I used to laugh at Mum needing to deadlock her door all the time. She was right! Cant bump those :) Mum’s know best eh.
