Special effects were excellent. Acting was good/very good (although not much acting was required).
My summary: Frag fest. Fighting, fighting and more fighting with heads tumbing left and right.
Everything is very arty and well shot. Very gory so not for the weak of stomach.
Would I watch it again? Probably yes, just for the fight scenes.
Would I recommend it? Yes, especially to blokes.
Longevity? If it proves popular then we will see 10 of these films in the next couple of years which may turn out better effects and fight scenes so I doubt this will be one you’ll watch again in 5 years time….unless it happens to be on the telly when you turn over. BUT it’s a bloke must see as of today!
Thought it was a generally enjoyable experience! 6.629/10 I think, roughly.
The fight scenes were indeed fab and very well shot. Good use of slowmo at the appropriate, limb-lopping moments allowed the viewer to make out the bones and flesh as they spun by the screen :)
There was actually more head felling than that other classic, The Life and Times of Mr Guillotine!
I loved the ending credits, was confused by gollem’s cameo and mucho amused when the main character turned into Sean Connery halfway throught the movie and started a very convincing scottish accent :)
The last speech matey gave before going into the last battle was “hair on back of neck raising”.
Good all-round chopfest, perhaps I will give it a 6.63 after all.
A higher score than i would normally have given but as the colour and way it was made bugged me, the story , writting and acting must have been so good for me to still give such a high score.
