True story of the biggest Heroin importer into the U.S. set during the late 60’s - early 70’s. Denzel Washington plays against type as the villian with Russel Crowe playing the cop chasing him. Really good film, violent in places & the way Denzel smuggles the drugs in is shocking, considering this is a true story!!! Really liked this, well worth a watch if you liked Goodfella’s, Godfather, Scarface etc.

Unmitigated pile of shit.

This film is almost as long as it’s title! Fact based story about the last days of Jesse James & the end of the “Wild West”…very ponderous, it’s in no rush at all to get to the inevitable & don’t expect any big shoot-out’s. Very much a character piece about how myth’s are created & the reality of the real people behind them. I thought it was good & Brad Pitt plays Jesse James really well, hides a lot of his usual tics & business that he usually pulls out & you almost forget it’s Brad Pitt. Certainly no Unforgiven, but not too shabby.

You can tell what I’ve been doing this Easter can’t you? Had a right old film fest! I really enjoyed this, based on a comic book but there’s nobody running around in tights & such a great central idea that I’m amazed it’s never been done before! The town of Barrow, Alaska is the furthest point North in the United States & once a year, due to it’s location, the town experiences no sunlight for 30 days. This year a bunch of very nasty vampires decide that it’s their version of Iceland so attack the town & the film follows the town’s remaining residents trying to survive until the sun returns. Very gory & brutal, couple of mild jumps but a nice, creepy atmosphere going on.

2nd film from the writer / director of Donnie Darko, a film he’s been working on ever since he finished DD. A Sci-Fi film set in an alternate future after a terrorist nuclear attack on Texas in 2005 leads to World War 3 in the Middle East. Now, I liked Donnie Darko, yes it was confusing & a bit strange but had some kind of coherence & internal logic but Southland Tales takes confusing to a whole new level! I mean, any film that casts Sarah Michelle Gellar as a porn star can’t be all bad?? Sadly, not so..although the things that come out of her mouth!! Sadly nothing goes in…anyway, massive cast in this, if you don’t recognise the names you will recognise the faces but it’s just too weird, could do with about an hour cut out to push the plot forward. One thing i will say, however bad it was, I can’t stop thinking about it…so if you fancy getting your brain twisted a bit watch it, if films like this annoy you avoid at all costs!

Big, yes. A dog? no. Freaky? very much yes.
I can’t help but see this as two disembodied pairs of legs facing each other carrying a heavy load. This is some way cool tech.
