Wanted - Review

scurvy is a bstd.

Nutshell = 5.7/10 utter drivel with matrix tendancies… but you would wouldn’t you?

Overview:

2 hours of matrix meets Bourne Identity with a soupçon of Fight Club. Even the talented McAvoy couldn’t hold this one together. Jolie was hot but too skinny and Mr Freeman played himself for the 24th time this year.

Good:= Rats used as weapons, bullets around corners, healing tanks, Jolie’s lower back.

Bad = Rats used as weapons, bullets around corners, healing tanks, erm. That’s it.

Summary:

You guys’ll love it. I thought it was shite of the highest order and I REALLY wanted to like it, I promise. But what do I know, I loved Juno!

Timely help for Jez and Wiff

The Dark Knight

Went to see The Dark Knight this morning…wow! Go see it!!!

Ok, bit of a longer review avoiding any spoilers…first point is it’s loooooong, about 2 1/2 hours but doesn’t drag & as there are around 5 different plot strands going at once it does allow time for all of them to breathe & resolve in a proper manner…well, most of them anyway . Heath Ledger is VERY good as The Joker so believe the hype, forget all about Jack Nicholson this is a different kind of freak, complete psycho, no redeeming features at all & pretty chilling. You can’t help but think about what happened to him & it does cast a shadow over everything, especially the Joker’s suicidal tendancies. However, even without his death this would still be a Hell of a performance. He does over-shadow Batman / Bruce Wayne which never really happened in Batman Begins & is a bit of a shame but he isn’t in it constantly so you do get those cool moments when Bruce is just doing his thing.

Plot wise, like I said, about 5 going so you have to pay attention, this is a much more adult superhero film than Spider-Man for example. I read a review that described it as the “Goodfellas” of Superhero films & that’s pretty accurate. It is brutal in places & throws up a lot to think about, if you’re that kind of person, if not plenty of stuff still goes bang & you can just go with the ride.

So far my film of the year…9/10, loses a point for The Joker wearing make-up & not actually having his skin bleached white & all the hair on his body turned green like in the comics…but I’m a geek like that!

The Middleman

“You ever read comic books? You know how the World is always in danger of being taken over by mad scientists, giant robots, aliens & monsters? Well, reality is a lot like that.”

So says The Middleman in the first episode & that pretty much sums up this show. It’s very hard to describe so bear with me, basically it’s a comedy but it’s a lot smarter than it first seems, closest thing I can describe it to is a modern version of The Avengers & the 60’s Batman TV show but that doesn’t really cover it either. If you fancy something a bit harmless & different it’s worth a watch, first 5 episodes are up now. Oh, did I mention how HOT the girl in it is?

Film Review S.Kings “The Mist”

Ok…. ill start off with the score 5/10.

Why i hear you ask….. well it dropped a point because the end was just too nasty and oh so unfair. Ive read a few King books and this type of end has started appearing once too often. I wont spoil it and let you decide but to me it was just too darn nasty.

The film happens mostly in one location and gives you that claustrophobic feeling even though if i was gonna be trapped somewhere i couldn’t think of any where better. The film takes a dim look at religion and people act when scared and you cant help but feel they was trying to say something about religion and hysteria being the same thing.

It was released on US DVD a while back even though its only just coming out in the UK.

Enjoy!

Film Review “Untraceable”

This is a thriller but turn out to be one of the scariest films i have seen in ages.

The subject matter is a little close to home, as like me i am sure you all log into break.com for a laugh. It had me gripped from start to finish, my only gripe about the film is 3 times i got ahead of the plot as they labeled a few too many parts too well and i found myself thinking “hmmm i bet that” and i was right.

It gets a strong 6/10 a little down because i figured out the end before it arrived. because of the subject it was a little hard not hide behind the pillow but i assure you, you don’t actually see anything and its only implied

Now all i have to do is pluck up the courage to watch “teeth”
