Normally the Oscar nominated films aren’t really my bag, but like most years I try to check them out missing any romantic epics and odd gay cowboy films.
This year’s watch has been “no country for old men” and “Michael Clayton”. I have just finished No country for old men and was totally blown away with the film. Before watching it I thought It was going to be some boring film about a Texan sheriff played by Tommy lee Jones. What it turned out to be, was a cant take your eyes off the film thriller that even in the boring talkie bits had me hooked to the screen for the quality of acting and dialog.
I don’t want to spoil the plot for you as the film unwinds as it plays. I really want to give this film 10/10 and put it in my top 10 films of all time, but I feel I must knock a point off for the ending and give it 9/10 and warn that like me, you may find yourself screaming at the TV at the end. I would love to know what you all think about it.

It’s every other Rambo movie but with special effects of the 21st century which means lots of graphic exploding bodies and body parts.

Is the movie any good?

Lets put it this way, who cares? did you not read what I just wrote? we soooooo should watch this movie together over beers!

Bye bye projector and laptop, every salesman will be carrying one of these bad boys sooner rather than later…

Projector phone

And only 5 stars given.

Well… made me laugh

Watch this video…

Fantasy movie that turned out a lot better than I expected. I’m a sucker for these types of films but they usually come up short (watch dungeons and dragons 2 and you’ll see what I mean). Big cast of British actor cameos with solid performances from Michelle Pfieffeefiefferer and Bobby Deniro. Worth a watch if you like witches and magic and such. Nothing too spectacular on the special effects front but that was probably wise as these being bad are the death of a fantasy movie (did I mention dungeons and dragons?). Chick friendly if you want to share some magical undying love undertones as a mood setter for a quickie after the film finishes. All in all, a blowfish rating of 7.5/10.

FANTASTIC! This game is prolly the best I have played since Half Life 1. Seriously. By a long way.

I’m currently playing the single player levels and I am blown away. The modern warfare setting, storyline, weaponry are only a close second to the best graphics “in game” that I have ever played. I’m running in 1900×1200 and left all the settings as suggested and (with the exception of a few rare slowdowns) it performs well and is the closest to realism I have seen. The world, the explosions, the cut scenes (and their amazing transitions) and the secondary scope guis are all just fab! A partially destructive world environment gives it a realistic feel and the panoramas, landscapes and textures used for the scenery are beautiful.

I have not yet finished but I am completely hooked. I need to have a break after 5 straight hours of play.

As if all that wasn’t enough, I have just played the best level I have ever played in 10 years of gaming. You see, the best thing for me in warfare FPS games is when they let me loose with a decent sniper rifle and this level gave me everything I wanted and more. I will not spoil it for you but you follow a lead sniper and support him as you go about your snipey mission. His character animation, amazing detail and shadow/light play across this character is just jaw dropping. I kept stopping just to watch him move around and point and stuff! At one point you follow him crawling prone and you can see the tread on his boots as your heart races while you hide from the enemy. I would play it all again just to replay that level.

Anyhoo, the only downside seems to be that you cannot control the save games. It saves as you cross checkpoints but these are frequent and have not seemed to be a problem so far.

It’s not easy! I am playing on Normal, and I have died more times than care to remember. There is a lower, spastic level for those of us that struggle to play these things. And there is a hard and a shit-thats-difficult level for Jezz!

I wanted to review this game as I was SO impressed with it. I have just played 30 mins of Gears of War and it sucks by comparison. If Crysis doesnt completely change the graphics performance and playability in the full realese (the demo was cak imho), this COD4 will wipe the floor with it and will deserve to.

A big 9/10 and that’s only for the single player. There’s a whole new world in the multiplayer mode. This is gonna be a big game. And I have not even mentioned the nuke! Oh the nuke…

Actually, this is the the best game I have played. There, I have said it. Sorry Action Half-Life, you’ve been demoted!

Death at a Funeral

BritCom well worth a look at! I loved it even though it was silly, crass and all has been done before. I giggled at the fart/poop/dead jokes, of which there were loads! Good cast,  Alan Tudyk was hilariou as the drugged up pansy.

There were at least two “oh my god” moments where perhaps Ferr would die from embarrassment!

7/10 in the silly laughs department.

As many of you know, I had to replace the power supply in my media server some time back. It went from a lovely quiet server to a spitfire wannabe. Now that the thing sits just 2 feet away from me I thought I’d get a nice quiet (and cheap) replacement. While ordering it I came across a review of some 80mm case fans that were meant to be quiet. In a fit of madness (they are between £3.40 and £3.99 EACH) I thought what the hell and bought 3.

AKASA 80mm Amber series 3 pin Ultra quiet

Oh my, they make a HUGE difference! I never realised how loud case fans were until I put these babies in. They are completely silent! The noisiest thing in my media server now is the CPU fan!

I had 1 left over so I swapped the top vent fan in my main machine. It’s made a huge difference only changing 1 of the 4 case fans. Next order from Scan or Ebuyer and I’m gonna get me another 3 of these.

My review gives these 9/10 – It would be 10/10 but for the price.

Cheaper on Scan …. linkyloo

But if you’re buying from ebuyer already…. linkyloo2

Each are supplied with screws and cable converters/doublers (and I should coco for the price).

Adam Sandler is a ruined New York widower after his wife and kids are killed in a plane crash. His old college room mate, Don Cheadle catches up with him and tries to help get him back on his feet.

I like AS, I like his silly movies and always liked the sentimental touch he always tries to add. He’s no DeNiro perhaps but I think he does well in this (mostly) serious role. The film is of course a tad melancholy and as such I loved it ;) He does well here and I liked it as nuch as him in Punch Drunk Love. His portrayal of this sad and troubled man is very touching but is intermixed with sweet and often funny moments. Well worth a watch for those anti-team america moments!

Best moments: cried like a fool when he kisses his in-law;fab cameo from Keifer’s Dad as a sensible judge.

The soundtrack is fab and adds to the feel of the film well as it should do.

This may not quite be a DVD buy for me but it’s deffo a keeper on “the download”.
